VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Cox Falcons volleyball player Lucy Tignor is a special talent for their squad this season. The Falcons lossed 6 seniors from last year's team and they're hoping the junior can help settle an infusion of six incoming freshman.
"We definitely have to mentor the freshmen and the sophomores", says Tignor. "Just provide that leadership for them".
Tignor comes from a family of athletes that have also walked the halls of Cox High School. Her dad, Ted was on a state title team in baseball 1996, while two aunts played volleyball that included Katie Gilman, also state champion.
"Everybody just plays a sport", she said.
Head coach Tracie Thompson sees Tignor's talents on display on a daily basis.
"She's a vibrant personlity on the court", she says about the junior. "We call her "Baby Hulk" sometimes, because she is so strong".
They're hoping Tignor's inner strength can guide the Falcons back to championship caliber after losing in region quarterfinals in 2023.
"We have a really strong team bond out there", she said. "You can tell we have what it really takes this year."
