Former NFL great Vick holds 2nd annual Achieving Vicktory Foundation toy giveaway

About 150 children got the ultimate choice to pick their favorite toy, electronics and bikes at the Boys & Girls Club on the Virginia Peninsula.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — It was life coming full circle for former NFL great Michael Vick. The Newport News native and former #1 overall draft pick was holding his 2nd annual Achieving Vicktory toy giveaway. About 150 children from the neighborhood got the ultimate choice to pick their favorite toy, electronics and bikes at the Boys & Girls Club on the Virginia Peninsula on Hampton Avenue.

It was the same club Vick attended as child. Among the electronics were 125 iPads and 30 bicycles being handed out. The former Warwick High Raider wanted the electronics to play a bigger roll in the children's lives.

"The educational aspect of anything in life takes precedence", he said. "Education is key. and of course they're going to have toys to play with, but this is something they can help enhance their brains, their critical thinking."

Vick added doing this event was very personal to him to reach out to as many lives as possible.

"It's like walking into Toys-R-Us", he said. "That was something I wasn't able to do as a kid. Sometimes Christmas wasn't as rewarding for us. Sometimes there was a Christmas where we didn't have anything. You can't help everybody, but not on my watch."
