Warwick Head Football Coach Corey Hairston Retiring After 11 Years With Raiders

Defensive Coordinator Thomas Sykes will take over as head coach

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Eleven years ago Corey Hairston took over a Warwick football program coming off an 0-10 season. He retires from that position today having built the Raiders into one of the best teams in Hampton Roads.

Warwick has gone 33-6 over the last 3 seasons, winning a region championship in 2022. The Raiders 2024 season ended this past Friday with a 41-7 defeat to Maury in the region semifinals. Maury and Phoebus, two undefeated defending state champions, were the only teams to beat Warwick over the past 2 seasons.

Hairston spent time as an assistant coach at other Newport News schools before taking over at Warwick, totaling 28 years coaching in the area.
