Phoebus comes into the 2024 football season with "all the right ingredients in place"

The Phantoms have a goal of winning a fourth straight state title. It would be the second time they've accomplished the feat since it was done from 2008-2011.

HAMPTON, Va. — The Phoebus Phantoms know a thing or two about dynasties when it comes to football. As a program, they've got a total of ten championships that reside on Ireland Street these days. They won four in a row from 2008-2011, but in recent years they've capture three straight through last season.

In case you're wondering, yes they have eyes on a second four-peat. Something they embrace and they've got the experience to do it.

"How do we finish this recipe?", says head coach Jeremy Blunt. "All the right ingredients are in place. They continue to be in place".

Several of his returning players were freshmen when they won their first one three years ago like defensive lineman Markus Hopson.

"We don't look past nobody", says Hopson who's a senior. "We don't look at the next week or week after that. Just one game at a time".

Running back Kaleb Tillery added, "Never overlook an opponent on our schedule no matter who we're playing. Always locked in and ready to execute".

The Phantoms understand the target that's on their backs.

"You have to embrace it", says Blunt. "You can't shy away from it. There are too many talented teams, well coach teams out there".

Phoebus opens the season on the road against Class 6 power Highland Springs out of the Richmond area on September 6th at 7pm.
