Hampton native and Jets QB Taylor holds first ever Passing Academy

The former Crabber and Virginia Tech Hokie worked with 60 quarterbacks and receivers from Hampton Roads to the Richmond area on Sunday.

HAMPTON, Va. — NFL training camps get up and running this week for players. One local player stopped through peninsula to drop some knowledge. The Tyrod Taylor Passing Academy offered lessons to 60 high school players (30 quarterbacks and 30 wide receivers) from around Hampton Roads to the Richmond area on Sunday from Armstrong Stadium at Hampton University.

The 34 year old Taylor, who's in his first year with the New York Jets, wants them to get real time experience from former college and pro players.

"Help share knowledge with the amount of talent we have in this area", says the 14 year NFL veteran quarterback. "A lot of the guys came from this side of the water. Michael Vick, myself, Aaron Brooks, Ronald Curry".

Taylor gets back to work on Tuesday from New Jersey with the Jets. He prepares for this upcoming season as the back up to 4-time NFL Most Valuable Player Aaron Rodgers who's coming off an achilles injury from last season.

"Prepare like a starter", he said. "That's been my mind set since I got drafted in 2011. Regardless of where you are on the depth chart. Your attention to approaching day in, day out. Physically and compete at a high level".
