NORFOLK, Va. — Michael Vick had a busy Sunday. Earlier on the peninsula he was helping out with New York Jets quarterback and Hampton native Tyrod Taylor's event. He then came Southside to Norfolk State University to be the headliner for something that was close to his heart.
The second annual MEAC Girls of the Gridiron Flag Football Clinic took place at Dick Price Stadium. It's no secret that football is growing in popularity among young girls. There were over 75 in attendance ages 12 and over, having fun and learning about the sport with Vick among those teaching the game.
The 44 year old Newport News native is a father of four that includes two daughters. One of them, Jada, plays flag football at Reinhart University.
"I'm all about progression and growth", he said. "I see that girls flag football is something that young women are taking very seriously".
Vick is doing his part to spread the word about a sport that made him the overall number one pick in the NFL Draft in 2001 along with being a 4-time Pro Bowler.
"They're having fun with it. They're dedicating themselves just like the young men do."
