Commanders sign Norfolk native Holmes to free agent deal

The former Lake Taylor Titan was drafted by the Vikings in 2018 and has played with the Saints, Bears and most recently with the Jets.

ASHBURN, Va. — After being cut just hours before the Jets game with the Bills, veteran defensive lineman Jalyn Holmes found a quick landing spot that's closer to home. The 28 year old on Wednesday signed a free agent deal with the Washington Commanders. 

He goes from a team that's currently struggling to a franchise that's making a splash in the NFL with a rookie quarterback (Jaden Daniels) and first year head coach (Dan Quinn) that's first in the NFC East. 

The former Lake Taylor Titan great will help fill the void on Washington's defensive line since the season ending injury to Jonathan Allen. 

Holmes was selected in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of Ohio State by the Minnesota Vikings. He also made stops with the Saints, Giants, Bears and most recently with the Jets.

The Commanders will host Carolina on Sunday at 4:05pm.
