Washington Commanders will 'recalibrate' not 'rebuild,' head coach Dan Quinn says on first day of 2024 training camp

Everything is new in Washington as the Commanders opened training camp and the 2024 season with a new head coach, offensive line and quarterback.

ASHBURN, Va. — If the 2023 Washington Commanders dipped their toes into the shallow end of the pool of change, the 2024 edition are going full on swan dive into the deep end. It is clearly the start of a new era in Ashburn.

New general manager, new coaching staff, a revamped offensive line, new presence on defense. So with all that newness, especially when the quarterback is a rookie, would typically lead to this thing taking time.

Time to jell and to grow. With the finished and hopefully championship worthy final product somewhere in the distance.

Even so, new head coach Dan Quinn isn't waiting around.

"I'm not the best on patience", he said on the first day of training camp.

"Somebody asked me over the summer said 'rebuild.' That sounds like real estate to me. That's why I said 'recalibrate.' It's not rebuilding like we're buying an old house. How quickly can we become good."

So clearly not just long-term urgency there, but short-term, day-to-day, drill-to-drill.
