Commanders first day of OTAs were filled with optimism and excitement

The environment has changed since last season as Washington opened up organized team activities on Tuesday.

ASHBURN, Va. — Not even cloudy and raining conditions could put a damper on the opening day of organized team activities for the Washington Commanders. The talk wasn't about new head coach Dan Quinn and his defense or even first round draft pick and Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Jayden Daniels.

It was the team itself. They have a brand new vibe. For example, OTAs are optional for veteran players, but today all of them reported along with rookies, something that didn't happen last season.

One of those veterans punter Tress Way has been with the Commanders since 2014 and he said, "This is the most excitement I've felt around this franchise".

His fellow teammates echoed that sentiment.

"I personally haven't experienced it and Tress has been here way longer that I have", says offensive tackle Sam Cosmi. "We're all hyped. We're very excited".

"It seemed like everyone had a smile on their face", said wide receiver Jahan Dotson. "Honestly, it's contagious. It's really great vibes around the building".

Quinn says their body language is transfering to practice. "How they do things, follow a process or a routine" he says. "They have to get themselves ready, but by doing what they do that can also can be a multiplier".

OTAs will continue on Wednesday.
