HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- If anyone has dominated at Langley Speedway in recent years, it would be Shawn Balluzzo. He's currently the points leader in the Modified Division. Balluzzo has bigger goals in his sites. He has three wins this season and should he capture the points title, would pass the great, Phil Warren for most championships by a driver with eight. "Never thought that we could win seven championships", he says.
Balluzzo is going for a second national title. He's also two years removed from having a heart attack while driving in a race. "The caution came out. I was feeling odd and I think we were running second and I just didn't feel right and then I had a pain in my chest that seemed to go all the way to my back and then I got out of the race car. I laid down and told a buddy of mind, I really think I'm having a heart attack. It was really bad. I had 100% blockage in one of the three main arteries and one of the other arteries, I was born without and never even knew it. That's why this one caused so much trouble when it got clogged completely, then it was problem."
The 59-year-old has since bounced back and looking for more. "The crew has worked so hard and we're single mindedly after both of those things. We got a lot of wins, but to win the championships and then at that point you could walk away because you've done everything there is to do."
