NORFOLK, Va. — The Davis brothers couldn't have asked for a better night. In what was their first ever boxing event in Norfolk and first at Scope in 30 years, Keyshawn, Kelvin and Keon all getting wins Friday before a capacity crowd of 10,568.
"I had fun on the walkout all the way to the ring", said Keyshawn (12-0, 8 KOs) who took down Gustavo Lemos (29-2, 18 KOs) of Argentina with 1:08 left in the second round of a schedule 10-round fight. "I thought he was going to be really tough, durable....God had other plans".
Davis reclaimed his WBO Intercontinental and WBC USA Lightweight Titles and IBF World Title Eliminator.
Earlier, Kelvin (14-0, 7 KOs) dispensed with Yeis Solano of Columbia in a unanimous eight round decision. The lefty knocked him down in the last round, but he managed to get up before the end of the fight.
"Him coming out, moving, moving, moving, I had to readjust my game plan", he said. "Just had to think it through and stay disciplined".
Their youngest brother Keon got his first ever win as he took care of Jalen Moore in a four round unanimous decision before his hometown crowd.
"It felt great", he said. "When I heard them cheering, I'm punching him in the face and it turned me up even more".
Keyshawn was asked about what it meant to him while thinking about he and Kelvin's mentor in the late Boxing Hall of Famer and fellow Norfolk native, Pernell "Sweetpea" Whitaker, who fought in Scope back in 1994.
"He told me two things to keep and don't forget and I showed that tonight". It also made his hometown who came out to watch very proud.
