Daboll accepts Giant's job, Jimmye Laycock's coaching tree grows

After 4 years under fellow William and Mary connect Sean Mcdermott, Daboll gets head job

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — "They've paid the price, they've worked hard, they deserve opportunities and they haven't had anything handed to them," former William and Mary head coach Jimmye Laycock speaks reverentially about the work of a new football coach.

Graduate assistants, assistant coaches, even unpaid volunteers; the entry level of football coaching takes dirty work. It's a far cry from the press conference at the New York Giants' facility Monday afternoon. Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator, and Josh Allen whisperer, Brian Daboll was officially introduced as the Giant's head coach. The applause was a far cry from Daboll's first job in coaching as a volunteer assistant at William and Mary.

That's where Daboll developed a relationship with his boss in Buffalo, Sean McDermott. McDermott a player for Laycock and the Tribe at the time. Also on that team...Mike Tomlin. Three head coaches from one William and Mary team. Laycock says he roots for them all in the league....and struggles when they face off. Such is the plight of a coach with this caliber of coaching tree.
