NSU's Johnson drops career high 32 points in rout of Bears 79-49

Diamond Johnson went 5-for-6 from three-point range on the night for a career high 32 points.

BALTIMORE — Women's basketball junior guard Diamond Johnson scored a career-high 32 points in Norfolk State's 79-49 rout of Morgan State on Monday night at the Hill Field House in Baltimore, Md.

Johnson's 32 points is her first 30-point game of her career and just the third game this season that a Spartan has scored 30 or more. She had a hot start finishing with 17 of the 21 first quarter points for the Spartans. 

Johnson went 5-for-6 from three-point range on the night and each time this season that Johnson has had five threes the Spartans (21-5, 10-1 MEAC) have won: at High Point on Dec. 18, South Carolina State on Jan. 6, and at Maryland Eastern Shore on Feb. 5.

Kierra Wheeler is the only other Spartan with a 30-point scoring performance. She did it against High Point on Dec. 18 scoring 33 points and against Longwood on Dec. 31 scoring. Wheeler finished with her 12th double-double of the season after dropping 24 points and 10 rebounds in 37 minutes of play. Fourteen of Wheeler's 24 points came from the free-throw line where she finished 14-of-15.

The Spartans continue their streak through the conference winning their ninth straight contest and tenth MEAC game. Leading by as much as 33 points the Spartans had their second best shooting performance this season knocking down 52.8 percent of their shots.
