NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk State athletic director Melody Webb announcing on Tuesday that they've fired Dawson Odums as their head football coach after four seasons. The Spartans had a record of 15-30 during that time. His lone winning season was his first when NSU went 6-5.

Odums wrapped up his fourth season finishing 4-8 while losing two of their last three games.

"I want to thank Coach Odums for his continued commitment and dedication to Spartan football," Webb said. "Since his arrival, he has become a valued member of our family and community, always representing Norfolk State with dignity and class. We wish him nothing but the best moving forward."

Odums came to Norfolk State with some impressive credentials while he was at Southern University. During his eight full seasons with the Jaguars (2012 as interim head coach), he went 59-30 as the Jaguars won the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship (2013).

The school said a national search for the program's next head coach will begin immediately and that no further comment will be made at this time.
