As its football program remains perfect with a 9-0 record this season, James Madison University school official wants its players to enjoy the fruits of their labor beyond the regular season.

On Monday, school officials reached out to the NCAA Division I board of directors to reduce the time frame to move from FCS to FBS from two years to one.

In a letter to NCAA Division I board of directors chairman Jere Moorhead, JMU president Jonathan Alger as well as athletic director Jeff Bourne argued the Dukes football program has "embarked on this transition in ways that no other institution has since the transition rules changed 23 years ago".

Alger also noted that their "student-athletes have achieved an astonishing, unprecedented level of success during this period."

NCAA rules state that teams making the move from the FCS to FBS are ineligible for the postseason the first two years. Back on April 27, the NCAA denied JMU's appeal to complete the two-year transition in only one year. They are the first school to appeal the two year period.

The Dukes next face UConn (1-8) at home. Game time is 2pm.
