SAVANNAH, Ga. — The Lady Pirates fell on the road inside the Enmarket Arena to Georgia Southern 74-48. Hampton's offense struggled to find its rhythm early on shooting 23.5 percent from the field in the first quarter. While Georgia Southern led by as many as 27, HU found a way to shrink GS's advantage down to 15 late in the third quarter. However, the Eagle's offense continued to make shots in the final 10 minutes.
Georgia Southern started the contest on a 17-0 run. During this stretch, the Lady Pirates missed their 10 attempts from the field. HU's Cheyenne Talbot ended Hampton's cold stretch with a fast break layup. Talbot scored six of the Lady Pirates' first eight points. Cheyenne finished the contest with a team-high 13 points. With Coach David Six's squad going 4-6 from the field to end the period, HU only found themselves by 15 points.
While Hampton's offense improved in the second quarter, another run by the Eagles would make it 39-12. Coming out of the half the Lady Pirates started to click on both ends of the floor. Hampton was able to get out in transition forcing eight turnovers in the third quarter. Coach Six's squad would also hit two threes helping them cut GS's advantage back down to 15.
Freshman Tyra Kennedy hit a jumper from beyond the arc late in the third sparking her to have a strong fourth quarter. Kennedy finished the contest with a career-high ten points and made two threes. She would be one of three Lady Pirates to finish the contest with double figures. While Georgia Southern only shot 23 percent in the final period, the Eagles did most of their damage from the free throw line. GS was able to pull away late securing a 74-48 win.
