HAMPTON, Va. — Trent Boykin has shown plenty since taking over the Hampton Pirates football program, and now he's having his "interim" tag removed. Hampton University officially named him the school's head football coach on Wednesday. Boykin took over six months ago after the university mutually parted ways with former head coach Robert Prunty on April 30.
Since taking over, Boykin has guided the Pirates to a 3-3 record with wins over Virginia Union, Norfolk State, and Howard.
Hampton is currently ranked fourth offensively in the Coastal Athletic Association in points (176) and points/game (29.3). Pirates running back Elijah Burris ranks ninth in the CAA in rushing 441 yards, four touchdowns averaging 73.9 yards/game.
Boykin joined Hampton's staff in 2020 after he was hired by Prunty, and he served as the team's running backs coach and special teams coordinator through this spring.
The Pirates come off a bye week and will travel to play North Carolina A&T on Saturday, October 19 at 1 p.m.
