NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — As the area high school basketball season gets underway, history was made Tuesday night at Warwick High School. As the Raiders hosted Bethel, it was the debut of their new head coach LaTasia Robinson. She became the first woman to coach a boys basketball team in the Peninsula District.
Her Raiders got off to a slow start against the Bruins, but fought back only to fall 52-28. Dakota Broadus 12 points for Warwick in the loss, but Robinson always sees a bigger picture.
"It's just a sport", she said. "Anybody can coach it. Long as you know the game. Long as you know that sport, I feel like anybody can coach whether it's female or male, it doesn't really matter."
The Bruins were led by Jovan Butler with 17 points and Terrance Handsome had 14.
