Maury tabs Sanderlin as its new boys basketball coach

Darren Sanderlin takes over for one his former players in Brandon Plummer who's now an assistant coach at Elizabeth City State.

NORFOLK, Va. — Darren Sanderlin is officially headed back to coaching boys basketball in the Eastern District. The Norfolk native has been named the new head coach at Maury High School according to a school official. 

In 22 years of coaching, Sanderlin has a 297-217 record that included 17 at his alma mater Booker T. Washington where he won a state title as a player (1985) and as a coach (2006). He takes over for Brandon Plummer, who was on that 2006 team as a player. Plummer is now an assistant coach at Elizabeth City State.

Sandlerlin has spent the past five seasons as head coach at Kempsville High School in the Beach District.
