Lake Taylor girls win a thriller over Grafton and next plays Lafayette in the region final

Avanni McDaniel hit a deep 3-pointer from the corner at the final buzzer to give the 3rd seeded Titans a 53-51 win over #2 Grafton.

NORFOLK, Va. — The Lake Taylor girls basketball team is back in the state tournament for the first time in nearly five years and got there from an Avanni McDaniel deep 3-pointer from the corner at the final buzzer to give the 3rd seeded Titans a 53-51 win over #2 Grafton in the Class 3 Region A Girls semifinals on Thursday night. Lamari Budd had 25 points and kept the Titans in the hunt. Tanaya Baxter added 18 points.

The Titans (17-5) win sends them to the region championship game at 1 p.m. Saturday at Norfolk State against #4 Lafayette, who knocked off top seeded Hopewell 60-55 in the other semifinal. Dynasti Pierce led the Rams with 17 points.
