Kempsville holds off Green Run 54-53

The Chiefs have now won four straight and nine of their last twelve games. Emmanuel Angila led Kempsville with 19 points.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Kempsville bolted out to an early lead only to have Green Run close the gap, but they'd hold on to win their fourth game in a row as they edged the Stallions 54-53 on Tuesday night.

The Chiefs jumped out to a 14-2 first quarter lead over the Stallions care of Emmanuel Angila's team high 19 points with 13 of them coming in the quarter. Green Run trailed 26-13 at halftime.

The Stallions, who struggled early from the floor, managed to close the gap by the third quarter. Trey Miller topped Green Run with a double-double with 15 of the his game high 23 points coming in the 2nd half to go with 13 rebounds. They managed to cut the margin to four at 29-24 on a Kass Jackson three pointer as he wound up with 12 points.

Kempsville (9-3) would hold on to top Green Run (7-6). Jayvon Griffin added 11 points for the Chiefs in the win. 

On the girls side, Princess Anne (12-2) jumped out to a 29-5 first quarter lead and never looked back as they trounced Cox 90-13. Tinasia Spencer led four Cavalier players in double figures with 15 points. Celeste Bailey had 12 points, Jizelle James and Micah Ojo each had 10 points.
