HAMPTON, Va. — First Colonial's Wes Stubbe hit a solo homer in the 4th and Landstown's Cam Tellefsen hit a 5th inning two-run double as the Southside team topped the Peninsula/Private schools 5-3 at the 3rd annual All-Tidewater Classic from War Memorial Stadium in Hampton on Monday night.
The all-star game was presented by former Major League Baseball player and Chesapeake native Michael Cuddyer who played for Great Bridge High School. It was special treat for the 2-time all-star who got the chance to see his son, Casey, who's a sophomore at his alma mater.
"It was a lot of fun", said the former NL batting champion. "He works so hard and prepares and I know how much it means to him."
Casey, who got a rbi on a sacrifice fly to give the Southside an early 1-0 lead, felt ready for this moment. "I've tried to just silence out the noise", he said. "If someone says anything, just know that my game speaks for itself".
Casey has one advantage that most of his teammates and opponents don't have. A cheat code for a dad with a wealth of knowledge at the major league level.
"A little bit you could say, yeah", he said. "Handling the pressure and talking baseball with him and those nights on the couch just watching a game."
