FRANKLIN, Va. — The Paul Camp Community College baseball program has only been in existence for seven years. Daniel Rollins has only been the head coach the past five and yet the Hurricanes (34-18) find themselves chasing a national championship. They will take on Herkimer on Saturday May 25th in the National Junior College Athletic Association World Series from Auburn, New York.
It's their second straight trip and Rollins says getting there has come down to three key words. "It's called Triple-A. Attitude, Approach and Accountability", he says. "Those are three words our guys have control over."
Three corps principles that have led Paul Camp to two straight junior college world series appearances. "We're not afraid to call each other out", says Hurricanes infielder John Stansbury.
Righthanded pitcher Cooper Newell from Hickory High in Chesapeake added, "When bad things happen, we're like we're a good team. It's just a rough patch. We fight through adversity".
All that's left to do now is bring home one national championship.
"Last year we were just a little happy to be there, but this year we have a goal", says Newell. "We know we can win this thing so that's the goal."
