NORFOLK, Va. — Virginia State Parks is inviting visitors to witness the solar eclipse on April 8 and selling a limited number of safe solar viewing glasses.
With over 40 state parks across the Commonwealth, there are many opportunities to find the perfect eclipse view. Visitor's viewing experience will depend on weather, time and location.
Virginia State Parks has compiled a list of all the parks with the times when the eclipse will begin, the peak of the eclipse, the eclipse's end and the percentage of obscurity for each location.
Obscurity is the amount in which the moon will obscure the sun. Totality is when the moon completely covers the sun.
While the path of totality will not pass over Virginia, there are still many areas in which the moon will cover the sun almost completely.
In general, the farther west or north you go in the state, the higher the percentage of obscurity. Wilderness Road State Park is the state park with the highest percentage of obscurity at 90.1%.
Each park is also selling viewing glasses in their visitor centers or gift shops for just $1 plus tax while supplies last.
