CENTENNIAL, Colo. - The judge in the Aurora theater shooting case sentenced the convicted mass murderer to 12 life sentences without possibility of parole and an additional 3,318 years in prison Wednesday. Judge Carlos Samour Jr. had no other option after a split jury decided the sentence earlier this month.
The killer will spend the rest of his days behind bars for the 2012 massacre that killed 12 people and injured 70 others.

Here's a look at the other convicts around the other serving sentences numbering hundreds and thousands of years.
Chester Stiles – United States
What he did: Stiles was found guilty of child sexual abuse after video clips surfaced of himself raping and sexually abusing a 3-year-old girl. The Las Vegas Police launched a nationwide manhunt that led to his capture in 2007.
Sentence term: Stiles was sentenced to 21 life sentences with the possibility of parole in 140 years.
Darron Bennalford Anderson – United States
What he did: Anderson was convicted along with his accomplice, McLaurin (who also appears on this list) for kidnapping, raping and robbing an elderly woman.
Sentence term: Anderson was sentenced to less time than his accomplice, but it was still a whopping 11,250 years
Juan Corona– Mexico
What he did: Also known as the machete murderer, Corona was convicted of the murders of 25 migrant farm workers found buried in shallow graves in fruit orchards
Sentence term: Corona was sentenced to 25 life sentences.
Dudley Wayne Kyzer – United States
What he did: Kyzer was convicted of killing his estranged wife, his mother-in-law and a college student who happened to be at his mother-in-law's house on Halloween in 1976.
Sentence term: In 1981, Kyzer was sentenced to two life terms plus 100 centuries (10,000 years).
Allan Wayne McLaurin – United States
What he did: McLaurin and his accomplice, who appears earlier on this list, were convicted of kidnapping, raping and robbing an elderly woman.
Sentence term: McLaurin got a longer sentence than his accomplice -- 21,250 years. Three years later, though, his sentence was reduced by 500 years after he appealed.
Charles Scott Robinson – United States
What he did: Robinson was found guilty of six counts of raping children.
Sentence term: After saying he was tired of seeing rapists go free too soon, the judge sentenced Robinson to 5,000 years in prison for each count – amounting to 30,000 years.
Martin Bryant - Australia
What he did: Bryant was convicted of murdering 35 people and injuring 37 others in what became known as the Port Arthur massacre, a killing spree in Tasmania in 1996.
Sentence term: 35 life sentences. Hobart Supreme Court Judge William Cox recommended that he should remain in prison until he dies. Despite two suicide attempts in 2007, Bryant is still alive and serving the rest of his years in the psychiatric wing of Risdon Prison.
José Emilio Suárez Trashorras, Jamal Zougam and Otman el-Gnaoui - Spain
What they did: These three men were sentenced for their roles in the 2004 Madrid train bombings, which killed 191 people and wounded 1,800
Sentence term: The three were sentenced to between 34,000 and 43,000 years in prison each. Gnaoui and Zougam were given 30 years for each of the 191 people killed and 20 years for each person injured. The Spanish legal system only allows a maximum of 40 years behind bars, however.
Bobby Joe long – United States
What he did: Long was convicted of abducting, sexually assaulting and murdering at least 10 women in the Tampa Bay Area during an eight-month period in 1984. For unknown reasons, Long released his 11th victim after sexually assaulting her for 26 hours, leading to his arrest and conviction.
Sentence term: One five-year sentence, four 99-year sentences, 28 life sentences and one death sentence.
Chamoy Thipyaso- Thailand
What she did: Thipyaso was found guilty of defrauding over 16,000 people in a pyramid scheme valued at over $204 million in 1989.
Sentence term: Thipyaso was sentenced to 141,078 years.
Gabriel March Grandos - Spain
What he did: Grandos was found guilty of fraud for failing to deliver 42,768 letters during his job as a post officer in 1972.
Sentence term: Sure, it's not violent crime. But he was sentenced to 384,912 years in prison nonetheless.
