NORFOLK (AP) -- Two watusi steers are enjoying life in their new habitat at the Virginia Zoo in Norfolk.
Zoo officials says the watusi steers grow horns that can measure up to eight feet from tip to tip and eight inches in diameter, the largest horns of any cattle species.
The watusi breed was developed in east Africa more than 2,000 years ago. The animals weight 900 to 1,600 pounds and can live more than 20 years.
The Virginia Zoo's new residents, named Diallo and Gamba, were born in the summer of 2012. They entered the Africa - Okavango Delta on Thursday. They will eventually share the habitat with the zoo's Hartmann's mountain zebras.
