VIRGINIA BEACH (AP) -- A former Washington state sheriff's deputy will spend 16 years in prison for robbing two banks in Va. Beach last year.
Preston Robert Walcker, 45, pleaded guilty to the heists in February. He already is serving more than seven years for a bank robbery in Chesapeake and 10 years for another in Hanover County.
On April 12, 2010, Walcker got more than $2,700 from a teller at Bank of Hampton Roads on Lynnhaven Parkway. On May 6, he got about $500 from the Bank of Hampton Roads on Indian River Road.
The Virginian-Pilot reports that Circuit Court Judge William O'Brien gave Walcker 40 years and suspended all but 16 years and 7 months. He will serve that sentence concurrently with those in the other cities.
Walcker also must pay restitution. He got away with more than $3,000 in the two robberies.
