NEWPORT NEWS-A Peninsula volleyball coach is accused of sending inappropriate photos and messages to a teenager.
42-year-old Charles E. Cole is a NASA contractor and coaches for Hampton Christian Schools and coached at Peninsula Juniors Volleyball Clubuntil April 2012, Newport News Police spokesman Harold Eley told WVEC.com.
The teen's parent contacted police on July 24, saying Cole was chatting inappropriately with the 14-year-old girl and sending her inappropriate photographs. Cole is apparently her volleyball coach, Eley added.
Cole was arrested August 10 at his home in Hampton by the Newport News Police Department Fugitive Apprehension Unit and the US Marshals Capital Area Regional Task Force.
Frank Carvell, the superintendent of the Hampton Christian Schools, told 13News this fall would have been Cole's fourth year coaching J-V volleyball.
He said there's never been even a hint that something like this could happen, so he is very shocked at the news.
Carvell said Cole passed a background check before being hired but has now been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.Hampton Christian Schools plans to send a note to parents letting them know about the situation.
He's charged with five counts of attempted indecent liberties with a minor and two counts of using a communications system to facilitate certain offenses against children.
