GLOUCESTER, Va. (WVEC) — Students at Peasley Middle School will receive the grand prize award for the "Start with Hello" program from Sandy Hook Promise.

The "Start with Hello" program empowers students to create an inclusive community by reaching out to students who may be chronically isolated, marginalized, or rejected and let them know they are valued. The students at Peasley Middle School are being recognized for their dedication to combat social isolation.

The Virginia school was one of 1,300 schools and youth organizations that participated in the program.

The "Starts with Hello" program was created by Sandy Hook Promise as part of its mission to prevent gun violence, and other types of violence, before it takes place.

Nicole Hockley, of Sandy Hook Promise, will visit Peasley Middle School on Monday to present the award.
