VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- A 23-year-old man was sentenced to life in prison, plus an additional 13 years, for the murder for a 20-year-old man.

Champion told police that he discarded the gun and his jacket before getting into the station wagon and fleeing the scene with Newton and the third man.

Police recovered the gun and Champion's jacket in October of 2013.
