VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- The winning design for the Mount Trashmore steps has been announced!
After more than 7,000 votes, Aimee Bruce's "Helping Hands" mural is the winner. Her design received more than 50 percent of the votes along with overwhelmingly positive feedback and public support.
According to the city, her mural will be installed on the stairs by the end of March.
Bruce's statement about the mural:
My concept behind this design references Michelangelo’s Creation of Adam visually, however, I wanted to focus on the hands themselves. I believe the community as a whole tries to interact and connect with each other to establish a stronger bond between people of all races, religions, genders, etc. When I think of Mount Trashmore, I think of the people and positive encounters I have experienced there.
Artists from across Hampton Roads submitted wor to transform the stair into an iconic, lively public work of art.
Congratulations, Aimee!
