VIRGINIA BEACH--Va. Beach is spending about $16,000 to correct an erosion problem around the City seal at Mount Trashmore Park.
The two-week project, which includes installing a drainage system, was supposed to start this week, but the bad weather has delayed work until the Tuesday after Labor Day.
Officials say water coming off the top of Mount Trashmore is causing erosion issues around the city seal fence. it's been a problem for at least a year, but it hasn't affected the integrity of the seal itself.
Wendi Ambrose and her family were at Mt. Trashmore Friday. She says she's being extra watchful of her children because of a crevice caused by the erosion.
The construction won't affect public use of the park and mountain, although officials want visitors to watch for trucks and equipment on the mountain.
Mount Trashmore, made from an abandoned landfill, opened in 1974.
