VIRGINIA BEACH -- A Va. Beach teacher resigned after she and her husband were charged with selling marijuana.

School officials say Allison Gaul was arrested December 21 and resigned the next day from her job at Corporate Landing Middle School.

Schools spokeswoman Nancy Soscia said the allegations against Gaul do not have any connection to the school or students.

She said Gaul went through a background check when she was hired in 2003 and there was nothing in it that would have disqualified her for employment.

Gaul had worked as a French teacher at Landstown High School, Princess Anne High School and Cox High School before moving to Corporate Landing in 2008.

Soscia added that because Gaul resigned, the district is taking no action.

Court documents state police searched their trash and found marijuana leaves and potting material, giving them basis for a search warrant.

According to the paperwork, police found between half a pound and five pounds of marijuana, growing equipment, packaging material, a digital scale and smoking devices inside the couple's Carlton East home.
