USNS Joshua Humphreys leaves on five-month deployment

The Navy Replenishment Oiler supplies fuel to other Navy ships while at sea.

NORFOLK, Va. — The USNS Joshua Humphreys (T-AO 188) deployed from Naval Station Norfolk on Monday morning.

The ship is beginning its five-month deployment to the Sixth Fleet.

The Navy Replenishment Oiler supplies fuel to other Navy ships while at sea. Sixty-seven civilian mariners will go to at least five stations for underway replenishment.

“We're like the 7-Eleven for the fleet. We bring them groceries, fuel, bombs,” said Chief Engineer Clifford Bard. “We’re just going to do our job and make sure everything goes as smooth as possible and do the mission.”

Bard said it’s been a while since this ship got underway because it went through repairs in a shipyard for about four months.

“We’re going to show everybody the Joshua Humphreys is back in the game," said Bard.
