Two U.S. Navy ships collided off the east coast, no injuries reported

The USS Leyte Gulf and the USNS Robert E. Peary made contact off the southeastern coast of the U.S. Tuesday, but no injuries were reported.

The USS Leyte Gulf and USNS Robert E. Peary collided off the east coast Tuesday, Feb. 5

NORFOLK, Va. — There were no injuries reported after a U.S. Navy guided-missile cruiser and dry cargo ship made contact Tuesday.

The ships collided during an underway replenishment off the southeastern coast of the U.S. Tuesday around 4 p.m.

The USS Leyte Gulf (CG 55) and the USNS Robert E. Peary (T-AKE 5) were able to safely operate after the incident. Once the ships pull into port, both will be assessed for damages.

U.S. Fleet Forces Command and Military Sealift Command will investigate the collision.
