VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Two people are dead and four others injured following a crash early Friday morning in Virginia Beach.
The intersection of Military Highway and Indian River Road was shut down for hours as police reconstructed the scene.
The crash between two vehicles happened at 12:53 a.m.
Police said a 2008 Nissan Altima driven by 33-year-old Lance Leaundrae Williams of Norfolk was traveling northbound in the 800 block of S. Military Highway. The car was speeding as it headed toward the intersection of Indian River Road, and it disregarded several red traffic lights.
At the intersection of S. Military Highway and Indian River Road, a 2004 Toyota Camry was stopped in the southbound turn lane. The light turned green, and the Toyota went into the intersection to turn onto Indian River Road.
The Nissan slammed into the Toyota. The Toyota started spinning toward the east side of S. Military Highway where 27-year-old Keeahney Dwahquan Scott was walking.
The Toyota continued to spin, hit the curb, and went up on the sidewalk and hit the pedestrian.
Williams was ejected from the car as it spun, and the car eventually rolled over.
Williams and Scott were pronounced dead at the scene by medics. Four other people were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Paris Ruffin, who lives in the condos a block away, said she heard the crash.
"I didn't hear brakes, I just heard the crash. I didn't hear no screeching or anything like that. Just boom. Just the impact."
