Newport News investigators are pushing for more leads in the case of a missing woman. Kathleen Haley vanished from her West Avenue Apartment place more than two and a half years ago. She last spoke with her family on Sept. 1. A week later they reported her missing. They haven't seen or heard from her since.
"Her family hasn't had contact with her. No one seems to know her whereabouts," said Detective William Gordon with Newport News Police.
Police searched her West Avenue apartment and what they found inside concerned them.
"There were signs that led us to believe that she could possibly be in danger," said Gordon.
A piece of carpet in her bedroom was gone, her stained mattress and box spring was found in a nearby dumpster, and her dog was also missing. Her car however, was still in her apartment's parking lot.
"Some of the items left behind are items that someone would take if they were going on vacation or if someone were going to visit someone out of state. There is some concern there. Why were those items left behind?" said Gordon.
According to her family, Haley is a very private person. Police say she lived in her Newport News apartment alone, but was a dancer at Headlights, a gentleman's club in Portsmouth. Police have interviewed some people at the club, but haven't gotten the information they need to help find her whereabouts.
Police released a sketch of a white male who was seen using a key coming in and out of Haley's apartment. Witnesses say he was there just a few days before Haley was reported missing. Haley's family told 13News Now when she first disappeared that it would have been very strange for someone else to have a key to her apartment because she was so private. Since the sketch was released, there haven't been any other leads in the case.
Haley's sister, Diane Roman spoke with 13News Now shortly after her disappearance back in 2012. She was desperate for someone to come forward to bring her family closure.
"Please come forward. We need to know what's going on, where she is, any information at all," said Roman.
Going on three years without any answers, investigators are also hopeful that someone will finally come forward.
"There's always hope. We have not found a deceased person, so there is always hope. We're going to search and continue to try until we either locate her or find her remains," said Gordon.
