Suffolk Public Library to host free English as a Second Language classes

SUFFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Thanks to a grant, Suffolk Public Libraries will offer free English as Second Language classes starting June 6.

Suffolk was awarded a $10,000 American Dream Literacy Initiative grant from the American Library Association and Dollar General Literacy Foundation. Suffolk Public Library will now be able to support adults in their English language learning goals.

The first class on Wednesday, June 6 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the North Suffolk Library. The summer session classes will run weekly through the end of August. There will be no classes on July 4.

Volunteers will be available after each class for individual assistance.

In addition to weekly classes, the library will host a Conversation Group twice a month. At the North Suffolk Library participants can enjoy coffee and conversations with other ELS learners to increase their vocabulary and speaking skills.

Conversation Group will be at 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on June 4 and 18, July 2 and 16, and August 6 and 20th.

Guests do not need to be members of the Suffolk library to attend, and registration is not required.
