VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — U.S. Senators Tim Kaine and Marker Warner are supporting a push to rename a Virginia Beach post office after mass shooting victim Ryan "Keith" Cox.
Witnesses say Cox sacrificed his life while trying to save others during the May 31 shooting at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center.
Last month, Representative Elaine Luria introduced a bill in the House of Representatives to rename the post office located on George Mason Drive in honor of Cox's sacrifice.
On Monday, the Senators sent a letter to the Chair and Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs voicing their support for the renaming.
"Naming the Princess Anne post office after Mr. Cox would be a fitting tribute to honor his memory and sacrifice. We are proud to offer our support for this bill, and appreciate your consideration of this legislation," the Senators said in the letter.
