PORTSMOUTH -- Police are warning parents about drug-laced suckers or lollipops that can get kids high.
Lollipops laced with the marijuana chemical Tetrahydrocannabinol, the main active chemical compound found in marijuana, are the newest drug trend, officials told 13News Now.
'We want to make sure that we catch these things early and we keep our kids safe,' Detective Misty Holley with the Portsmouth Police Dept. said.
In less than a month, Portsmouth police arrested several men who had lollipops laced with THC.
According to Holley, 'You would think it was just a normal lollipop. You wouldn't know to even try to test it for THC.'
So far, police haven't seen any children get their hands on these dangerous lollipops. However, parents need to be mindful of drugs disguised as candy.
'These are commonly being seen not just in Portsmouth, but in the area,' Holley noted.
Anyone found with the drug-laced candy faces a drug possession charge.
