Mark Warner praises President Biden as 'American patriot' for exiting 2024 presidential election

Senator Mark Warner was one of the first democrats pushing for discussions on whether Biden should exit the race.

NORFOLK, Va. — Virginia Senator Mark Warner was one of the first prominent democrats to call for a meeting to discuss President Joe Biden getting out of the 2024 presidential election.

On Thursday, he said it feels like Americans are looking at a very different campaign than they did a week ago. And he's pleased.

"I'm grateful for the President's selfless decision," Warner said in an interview with 13News Now. "Also, think about the America Biden talked about last night that can accomplish great things, but we all have to own that responsibility."

It was an emotional moment for the President, who came to grips with the fact that many in his party wanted him to exit the race due to his age. Democrats began speaking up after the president's embarrassing debate performance on June 27.

Warner said Mr. Biden's exit shows he is a real American patriot for putting the country first and for "his literal decades of service to our nation."

As the nation turns its attention to a new matchup, Warner is impressed with the support Vice President Kamala Harris is receiving since becoming the presumptive democratic presidential nominee. She'll face Donald Trump in November.

Warner warns the next president will inherent an extraordinarily challenging world, and he believe Harris is up to the task.

"She's had exposure to the world's leaders. I think she will be well received."
