WASHINGTON — U.S. Senator Mark Warner (D-Virginia) is sounding the alarm about election security.
The Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman said we already live in a hyper-divided country, and artificial intelligence (AI) technology is making it easier for adversaries to deceive voters.
Warner said that he's concerned about the use of AI tools, particularly the use of deepfakes to trick U.S. citizens. He's also worried about foreign intervention this election cycle, with the Presidential election now less than six months away.
"This is an area that Americans need to be on guard. We all know we have plenty of disagreement amongst ourselves, a lot of strongly held political views. That's part of our system. What we don't need tough is foreign governments trying to interfere or trying to frankly further pit Americans against one another," he said Thursday.
Warner said he believes American elections are less secure today than they were four years ago.
