WASHINGTON D.C., DC — On Capitol Hill tonight, the House passed a package of government funding bills to avert a partial shutdown before Friday’s deadline.
The House has passed a "minibus" package. The bipartisan measure includes six appropriations bills including military construction.
The 460 million dollar package now heads to the Senate.
Leaders are encouraging their colleagues to work together to pass the bills.
Congress also must pass six other funding bills by March 22 to avert another partial shutdown.
"The good news is we're not going to shut down the government. The bad news is we've literally blown through four separate deadlines. And we're almost halfway through the fiscal year before we'll actually pass a budget," Sen. Mark Warner said.
Now, the bill heads to the Senate.
If passed there, the measure will head to President Biden's office for his signature.
"A crazy process," is how Virginia Senator Mark Warner is describing the tortured path lawmakers have taken to being on the verge of finally passing a budget for 2024.
