NORFOLK, Va. — Most Virginians would choose Republican Nikki Haley over President Joe Biden if the 2024 presidential election were held now, a new poll from the Roanoke College found.
Across all respondents, Haley garnered 49 percent of the vote while Biden amassed 40 percent.
Comparatively, former President Donald Trump would not beat out Biden in Virginia, with the poll showing that Trump sits roughly four percentage points shy of Biden at 43 and 47 percent, respectively.
Despite those optimistic numbers for the former UN ambassador and South Carolina governor, Haley still falls behind Trump for the Republican nomination among GOP voters in Virginia.
Trump is the preferred candidate, receiving 75 percent of the vote among GOP respondents, with Haley coming in a distant second at 15 percent.
The Roanoke College conducted the poll between February 11 and February 19 with a total of 703 interviews. The poll's margin of error is plus or minus 4.62 percent.
The poll results were released Friday, just days before Super Tuesday, when 15 states, including Virginia, will hold presidential primary elections all on the same day.
The outcome will likely indicate the frontrunner for each party's presidential nomination since hundreds of delegates will be up for grabs.
