NORFOLK, Va. — With Election Day for the 2023 Virginia General Assembly elections just around the corner, the window to cast an early vote is coming to a close later this week.
All 140 seats in the Virginia General Assembly will be on the ballot. 100 of them are in the Republican-controlled House of Delegates, and 40 are in the Democratic-controlled Senate.
This is the first election under new Virginia General Assembly district boundaries based on the 2020 U.S. Census. This means some Virginians' legislative districts have changed since the last election.
The last day for in-person early voting is Saturday, Nov. 4, with voter registration offices across Virginia set to close at 5 p.m. Here's what else you need to know about early voting.
How to find early voting near you
Early voting is held at the local registrar's office or satellite voting locations. Dates and times for early voting may vary by locality and can be found via a tool on the Virginia Department of Elections website.
Your polling location for in-person voting is based on the address used when you registered to vote.
What you need for early voting in Virginia
All Virginians are eligible for early voting. Before heading to the polls, however, Virginians should check their voter registration online and ensure they have the required ID with them — a voter card, driver's license or state ID card.
What to do if you miss early voting
Voters who miss the early voting deadline can visit their polling location between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Election Day, which is Tuesday, November 7. According to the Department of Elections website, any Virginian in line by 7 p.m. will be allowed to vote.
