NORTH CAROLINA, USA — Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris will soon find out if they were able to win one the seven battleground states up for grabs in the 2024 Presidential Election: North Carolina.
Late night on Halloween 2024, the Tar Heel State exceeded its 2020 record for early voting — and according to a release from the State Board of Elections, nearly 3.8 million people cast early in-person ballots, as of the afternoon of Nov. 1.
North Carolina has 16 electoral college votes, one more than it had in 2020 due to population changes determined by the 2020 Census.
According to the State Board of Elections, ballots cast during the early voting period, all absentee ballots, as well as all ballots cast on Election Day from the state's over 2,600 precincts will be counted and reported by the end of election night. This count doesn't include provisional ballots, as they must be researched by county boards to determine whether the ballots should be counted.
The other 2024 battleground states are generally considered to be Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Georgia, Arizona and Nevada.
