'Pretty darn good' | Sen. Mark Warner on the state of the presidential campaign after Night 1 at the DNC

The senior Senator from Virginia said he believes people want to feel positive about the person they're voting for.

NORFOLK, Va. — Democratic U.S. Senator Mark Warner of Virginia said he agrees when Minnesota Governor and VP nominee Tim Walz said Democrats are putting joy in politics.

"People want to feel positive about our country but they also want to feel positive about the person they're voting for and I think Kamala has touched into it," said Warner.

After night one at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Warner said he feels good about the state of the race but believes voters still need to get to know Vice President Kamala Harris and what she has to offer.

"She started to lay out her economic vision on Friday," Warner said. "I think she needs to continue to lay out how she's going to keep America safe... something that's very important to us in Virginia and Hampton Roads with all of our military installations."

Night one stirred up a lot of emotions as President Joe Biden took the stage to deliver what is perhaps his last major address as a politician. One by one, he laid out his accomplishments over the last three and half years.

"Joe Biden got a chance to remind Americans about his record, remind the country that we've got the strongest economy in the world – that we've had low unemployment," added Warner.

His speech included an energetic shift to the future and support for Harris.

"Are you ready to vote for democracy and for America? Let me ask you, are you ready to elect Kamala Harris and Tim Walz?" Biden asked the enthusiastic crowd.

Night two's headliners will feature former First Lady Michelle Obama and former President Barack Obama.
