Local reactions pour in as Donald Trump is declared winner of presidential election

Some are confident President Donald Trump's win will bring about what they called much-needed change, while others expressed concerns.

VIRGINIA, USA — The results of the Presidential Election are still coming in, but Republican candidate Donald Trump has taken the majority of the electoral college vote, meaning he will be the president-elect. The nation is reacting to the outcome, including here in our area.

Reactions to the election have been mixed. Some are confident President Donald Trump's win will bring about what they called much-needed change, while others expressed some concerns.

The former president's win against Vice President Kamala Harris means Trump will return to the White House for a second term.

"It's time to put the division behind us," said President-Elect Trump. "It's time to unite!"

While Trump's win provides hope for some, others say his victory signals uncertainty.

"He can save America, I believe that," one supporter said.

"The world needs to pray, that's all I'm going to say," another voter said.

On the campaign trail, Trump touted priorities including lowering taxes and cracking down harder on illegal immigration.

Patrice Boss believes the Trump agenda will create new jobs and bring financial relief.

“A lot of manufacturing jobs have left. I’m part of the middle class, we want to see those taxes come down,” Boss said.

Other voters felt differently, and said they're still trying to process Vice President Harris's loss, including in nearly all key battleground states.

"You know, this is what they wanted. It was sexism," said one voter. "They didn't think that a lady could run this country."

Hayden Cunningham offered a different perspective: he said he is curious how President-Elect Trump will govern.

"I would love to see him defer to experts in various areas in forming his cabinet," Cunningham said. "I'm a little concerned with who's going to be chosen for that."

President-elect Trump becomes the first president to lose a second-term, and then be re-elected again four years later, since Grover Cleveland did in 1893.
