Gov. Youngkin has 'no plans' to further support Robinson's candidacy in North Carolina

In a statement from Youngkin's PAC Spirit of Virginia, a spokesperson said the Virginia governor "has no plans to further support [Robinson's] candidacy."

RICHMOND, Va. — Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin has withdrawn his support of Republican gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson.

As a member of the Republican Governors Association (RGA) Executive Committee, Youngkin attended an event for Robinson back in August. But in a statement from Youngkin's PAC Spirit of Virginia, a spokesperson said the Virginia governor "has no plans to further support [Robinson's] candidacy."

Robinson recently garnered national attention after disturbing comments he posted on an adult website more than a decade ago were uncovered and tied to him by CNN. He called himself a "black NAZI" and a "perv" and suggested he would buy slaves if he had the ability to, among other things.

Other Republicans have attempted to distance themselves from Robinson, such as Scott Lassiter, a Republican state Senate candidate in a Raleigh-area swing district, who called on Robinson to drop out.

Robinson received former President Donald Trump's endorsement before the comments were brought to light. Since the comments, the two haven't appeared together, although Trump had at one rally in North Carolina before the March primaries called Robinson "Martin Luther King on steroids," complimenting his speaking ability.

No further explanation has been given yet behind Youngkin's decision to withdraw his support from Robinson's campaign.
