NORFOLK, Va. — With just days to go until Super Tuesday, the two Republican candidates vying for their party's 2024 presidential nomination are hitting the campaign trail in Virginia.
Former President Donald Trump is scheduled to hold a get-out-the-vote rally in Richmond on Saturday, while former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley is holding two campaign events Thursday, one in Richmond and the other in Falls Church.
Haley's first event will take place at The Westin Richmond starting at 12:30 p.m. Thursday and the second will be at The Westin Tysons Corner starting at 7:30 p.m. More information about the events can be found on her campaign's website.
Trump's event will take place at the Greater Richmond Convention Center starting at 6 p.m. Saturday. Doors open at 3 p.m. People can sign up to attend the event on his campaign's website.
The campaign events come as early voting for Virginia's Democratic and Republican presidential primaries on March 5 is underway. Virginia is one of 15 states, along with American Samoa, participating in Super Tuesday, when the highest number of states hold presidential primary elections all on the same day.
Super Tuesday's outcome will likely indicate the frontrunner for each party's presidential nomination since hundreds of delegates will be up for grabs. Going into Tuesday's primary elections, Trump has swept the first five states on the Republican primary calendar, most recently in Michigan and South Carolina, the Associated Press reports.
Despite uphill odds in securing the 1,215 delegates needed to win the Republican nomination, Haley has vowed to stay in the race through at least Super Tuesday. A coalition of national conservative leaders, led by former Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore, has called on Haley to drop out, arguing it's time to unite around Trump.
